Wrenchers Ball, Fiday, April 25, Olympia Transit Center

Bicycle Commuter Contest Participants:

Mechanics from our sponsor bicycle shops will do free safety checks on bicycles that belong to Commuter Contest participants.
This is a basic safety check. The idea is to determine if your bike is safe to ride in the Thurston County Bicycle Commuter Contest for the month of May. If your bike needs major repairs or parts, you will be referred to a local bike shop. We will not have spare parts or inner tubes on hand. If you bring the parts your bike needs, we MAY be able to install them.

Bring your bicycle to the Olympia Transit Center Friday, April 25
between 7 am & 3 pm, and pick it up by 5 pm
One bike per participant, please. To have your bike checked in, you have to register for the contest in advance or in person at the event. Space is limited so first come, first served- hope to see you Friday!

2014 Earth Day Market Ride Beats Expectations

Intrepid Earth Day Riders
Earth Day Market Ride 2014 was a splashing success! Over 80 riders braved the gush and the gusts to meet at the Heritage Park Fountain and bike together to the Farmers Market. One participant biked from Lakewood (about 25 miles) to meet the group starting at South Sound Center, and then turned around to bike home after this picture was taken! Many thanks to all who came out today, anbd to Batdorf and Bronson and San Francisco St Bakery for coffee and treats.

David Kroodsma Speaks to Packed House

Last week's slide presentation by climate Scientist and bicycle adventurer David Kroodsma packed the house at Traditions Cafe.
Mr. Kroodsma related how his original idea of biking to raise awareness about global climate change evolved into a journey of transformation for himself and for his thinking about how to confront the twin challenges of improving living standards around the world, and of reducing our impact on the climate at the same time. His conclusions for needed action, in order of importance: 1) Contact your elected officials and urge them to act on climate change. 2) Encourage friends and family to do the same. 3) Reduce your carbon footprint.
The quickest and most effective way to reduce your carbon footprint is to drive less. Why not try using your bicycle to get around instead- you can join the Bicycle Commuter Contest to get started!
