Welcome to the BCC blog! We hope to share bike commute tips, news and events with you, as well as familiarize people with Thurston County's Bicycle Commuter Contest. If you have questions or would like a topic discussed, email dgreen@intercitytransit.com or leave us a comment!
The contest assists in building a sustainable bicycle culture by encouraging new riders to try bike commuting for a month rather than the usual bike to work day/week event, thus helping them develop the habit of bike commuting.
2006 was the first year Intercity Transit took the lead in organizing the contest. Thanks to the generous support of volunteers, business sponsors and supporters and most of all, contest participants, the Bicycle Commuter Contest is enjoying its 22nd year!
The purpose of this blog shall be to inform in detail about special events/promotions that lead up to the contest, provide resources and information about safe bicycle commuting along with community updates on bicycle commute related information.

CICLI or CICLE ????
Cicli, plural of ciclo. In Italiano
Yes! This is great!
Yesterday in Lacey at Sleater-Kinney and Pacific, I witnessed a near car-bike collision between an elderly woman driver turning right off S-K, and nearly running over a small child on a small bike, who was with a (likely) Mom and siblings, who was crossing in the crosswalk, with the light. Two big errors here: the Mom should have been in the lead off the curb, as she is much more visible; and the driver should have yielded to the bikers who had the right-of-way. I post this to help avoid any similar accident.
